Planting in the Mersey Forest

Thanks to Left Bank Pictures and the crew and cast of This City is Ours, 1,180 trees were planted at both a primary school in Liverpool and at an exciting project to expand and diversify woodland at Higher Wych, an hour's drive to the south.
At Higher Wych, our partners at the Mersey Forest, used a range of planting methods, from traditional and natural regeneration to hedge creation and the high tree density Miyawakimicro-woodland technique which stimulates a race for young trees to grow. The new trees extend Scholars Wood, forming a richer mosaic of habitats that will boost biodiversity, strengthen connectivity and build natural resilience for the future.
Work also included creating ponds, scrapes and bunds to aid natural flood management, improving the public right of way, and safeguarding the site’s historic features within open spaces.
